Changing the Odds Lunch

2014 Changing the Odds Lunch

Each year, Stand for Children hosts an education luminary as the keynote of our Changing the Odds lunch -- an inspirational event that supports our work throughout Washington state.

People like civil rights icon Marian Wright Edelman and education superstar Geoffrey Canada have been our keynotes in the past. And this year will be no less exceptional.

Dr. John Deasy is superintendent of the second largest district in the nation, Los Angeles Unified. He is changing the way America educates its children -- and we are thrilled to hear him share his thoughts with us on the future of education.

  • Funding what works – investing in equity and changes that are proven to make a difference.
  • Supporting effective teachers – using performance evaluations, feedback loops and incentives to help teachers get better at their craft.
