Teacher and Principal Evaluations
Effective teachers and principals matter. A teacher’s influence on student achievement is twenty times greater than any other factor, including class size or poverty. Research also shows that principals account for a quarter of a school’s total impact on student learning.
Teachers and principals deserve to work in a system that treats them like the professionals they are; a system that provides meaningful evaluations, fair compensation, useful professional development and recognition for excellence.
We believe that we can help provide all students by supporting a meaningful performance evaluation system that informs professional development and includes multiple measures, including state and locally decided measures of student learning.
This part of our website is dedicated to helping parents and community members understand the basics of Washington’s teacher and principal evaluation system and why it is important.
We cover our state’s transition to the new educator evaluation system, frequently asked questions, reflections from local districts and more.
