To impact student achievement in Dallas ISD, professional development in the district must be transformed. Ongoing, tiered professional development in academic content, instructional practices, and student behavior supports is essential to improving student academic achievement. This support cannot be limited to summer workshops and it most certainly cannot be one-size-fits-all. Putting relevant resources in the hands of teachers in a way that is non-threatening, yet holds them accountable, encourages personal growth. Leaders must identify the teachers on their campus who consistently demonstrate mastery of certain instructional practices and recruit them as resident experts in those areas.
