Class of 2008
At age 11, Quincy Harris was homeless for nearly a year. Once settled, life seemed to improve – but then a good friend died in a gang attack. Quincy decided to hit life head on. Quincy was the first in his family to go to college. He is now studying sports medicine at Western Oregon University.
Life as she knew it changed dramatically for Alyssa when at age 13 her father committed suicide. Alyssa knows that no matter how hard life gets, it is always worth fighting for. Driven by her passion for the Spanish language, Alyssa spent two years raising funds for a school trip to Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula. She was the first in her family to graduate from high school. Today, she is studying Spanish at Southern Oregon University.

When Nawwal Moustafa was five years old, her father abandoned the family. Home became a series of scary apartments and dangerous neighbors with frequent trips to the food bank. But Nawwal found a way to rise above it all by focusing on the positive and showing compassion for others. Today, she is highly involved with her school community at Western Oregon University, where she studies art and psychology.
