BESE District 8
Jada Lewis – Democrat
A native of Louisiana, Jada Lewis supports the positive changes that have been made in the last few years, but believes that more work has to be done in order to make sure that no student is left in a failing school. Lewis has voiced her support for a parent’s right to know how their child’s school is doing with a simple ‘A through F’ report card and is committed to making sure that every child has access to high quality early learning programs, so that no child is forced to start Kindergarten already behind.
Lewis comes from a family of educators and currently works as an Assistant Dean for LSU in the College of Engineering. She has spent her career mentoring students and advocating for diversity in science, technology, engineering, and math careers. Lewis has served the children of East Baton Rouge Parish for over a decade through mentoring programs and has also put her passion for education to use as a board member of a Baton Rouge charter school for low-income students.
Lewis has promised that, if elected to the board, she will fight to keep rigor and high expectations in place for students, and work to raise pay for great teachers in order to attract and keep high-quality educators in Louisiana classrooms teaching our kids.
