I want to ensure that we do all we can to make sure every child not only graduates, but is well-educated.
My niece attends Riverside 44 in IPS. I have been a part of school programs and have attended meetings there. It’s a school that is undergoing some needed changes as it moves toward becoming an Innovation School.
My hope is that every child leaves school able to read, write, and with some math skills. They need to be able to function well in society when they get out of school. If they don’t get those skills in school, where else are they going to get what they need?
I was part of the Civil Rights movement of the 1960’s and have seen the power of education first-hand. I have a Bachelor’s degree and pursue learning opportunities to this day. I want to ensure that kids are excited about learning again, just like I am. Anything you can do to help that happen and turn around failing schools is welcome and appreciated.
