Born and raised in Alabama, Donna knew early on that an education was her only way out of poverty. After coming to Chicago, she enrolled in college while working full time, eventually graduating with honors from Chicago State University with a degree in Sociology. She later went on to complete a one year graduate degree certification program, with honors, in Non-Profit Management from North Park College.
Donna worked on the historic campaign to elect Chicago’s first African American Mayor- a life changing experience. She worked in city government for almost two decades in various capacities including Legislative Assistant and Grants Manager. Donna also worked with stakeholders in several high need south suburban communities to bring Pre-School for All opportunities to 3 and 4 year olds.
As a Chicago Organizer, Donna recruits, trains, and organizes parents to become educational advocates and powerful voices for their children and communities. She believes strongly in the power of parents to change their children’s educational and economic destiny.
Donna is the very proud mother of Nyles, her only child and future leader of America. He is a freshman at Howard University in DC, majoring in Political Science and Economics.
