More than a dozen Chicago parents from Oliver Wendell Holmes Elementary School graduated last week from Stand for Children’s Stand University for Parents (Stand UP). These parents have dedicated themselves to becoming education champions for their children’s academic success. Now, with the tools they’ve gleaned in the program, they also have pledged to becoming leaders and advocates for all Illinois schools and their communities.
Stand UP is an intensive family engagement course taught in partnership with select public schools in underserved communities. Parents are their child’s first teacher, so when empowered, they set their child on the path to success and college.
