Angelica Alfaro - Senate District 2
Why We Endorse Angelica Alfaro: “Angelica Alfaro is living proof of the power of education to transform lives. She will use her experiences to fight for other students to have access to a great school and college education.”
Bio: Angelica is a progressive, passionate community advocate who was born and raised in Chicago's Humboldt Park neighborhood. The daughter of Mexican immigrants and proud union workers, Angelica learned at a young age the importance of family and a good education, which is why she has dedicated her life to helping our youth access great public schools and get on a path to and through college.
The first person in her family to graduate from college, she helped establish a $25,000 endowment to expand scholarship opportunities for Latina/o students at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Angelica also served as a counselor to first-generation college students who lacked the tools and resources to work their way through the application and financial assistance process and mentored them through their college years.
Angelica's greatest passion is expanding access to high-quality school opportunities for children and families in her community. She believes that empowered parents are the foundation of strong schools and safe communities. Through her work, she has helped hundreds of parents become advocates for their children's education and their schools.
Angelica's commitment to our children's education and experience as a tireless advocate for her community are the inspiration behind her campaign for State Senate representing Illinois's 2nd district, where she will bring a fresh perspective and the kind of change our children and families need in Springfield.
