What will the teacher prep bill do?
- Starting in the 2012-2013 school year, districts and principals will be encouraged to work with schools of education to identify and incentivize effective cooperating teachers (teachers with whom student teachers are placed for classroom observation and fieldwork).
- Cooperating teachers will attend a professional development program approved by the Colorado Department of Education to help build the skills needed to lead student teachers to success.
- Starting in 2015-2016, student teachers may only be placed with a teacher who has earned an effective or highly effective rating, as determined by Colorado’s forthcoming teacher evaluation system.
